Hygge is the Danish concept of being cozy. And it can be made where you are.
There is nothing quite like being cozy inside when the outside world is wrapped in a blanket of fresh snow. Hot chocolate and waffles are on the menu for dinner today!

I remember sitting on the boardwalk in Cocoa Beach listening to the waves crash onto the wide open ocean and feeling the fresh warm air coming off the Atlantic early in the 🌄 morning and waiting for the sun to crest on the horizon that would feel so good on my skin. It let me know that I was provided with another day to make a difference in my world with the short amount of time that has been made available to me whether it’s 100 years or tomorrow.
That sounds like an incredible moment! I have had some of those moments and I think many more are within my grasp. Thank you for sharing this experience with me, as it is a good reminder. I hope you are well and your new year is off to an amazing start!
Living in western Canada there are lots of opportunities to be cozy when it’s cold outside. I like to curl up with a hot drink, a blanket and a good book or film.
You are living in the perfect part of Canada for these moments! I remember being at a lodge in BC after a day of skiing and playing games with friends by a roaring fire and warm whiskey drinks.

I was talking to my sister in Antigonish today and she told me they got lots of snow and school was cancelled.
She said they got about 2 feet of snow!

Tea in a favorite cup in the early morning, a pen with plenty of ink and a page with plenty of space and time to do something with it. Wonderful question, I could make a whole list of Hygge 😊. I do love snow days. They come seldom here so they’re quite treasured. I fill the bird feeders to overflowing and we move chairs about to just watch the peace of it all. I remember cooking toast on our gas fire as a child. The bars on it were ideal for hooking a fork onto. Warming my face and hands too when we got in from school….
What a beautiful memory from a more simple time! My favourite childhood food related memory was frying an egg on a hot day in the back of our station wagon which was metal. Made for a nice grill 😉

It sure is! We got it throughout Wednesday! Fortunately my neighbour with his snowblower came by and I just had the had what I call the ‘plow poop’ at the end of the driveway! Did you guys get lots of snow too?
Maybe 4-5”- more than we were expecting. It was warm on Monday and at first it didn’t seem like n e thing would happen on Tuesday- but then ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ it all came down middle of the afternoon and was gone before 5- very odd.
It sounds like your weather is shifting wildly like ours here. Last night it was 11C and almost all the snow had melted. When I woke up this morning there was a dusting of snow and now we are on to freezing rain! Hope your weekend is going well.
Yes-esp since we r not getting freezing rain! some heavy downpours (of liquid rain) came through last nite though.

My great-grandfather, who passed away long before I was born, was Danish. I don’t know how old he was when he immigrated to America. I’d love to know more about my Danish heritage. I often say to my youngest grandson, when I’m watching him while his parents work, let’s get cozy. I may have to start saying hygge part of the time. I’ve never heard it and had to look up the pronunciation. Thank you for introducing me to it. I love getting cozy with one of my homemade quilts and a cup of coffee or tea, snuggled into the sofa or favorite chair. A favorite memory of being cozy was sinking into the soft guest bed in my grandparents farmhouse and snuggling up to my mom under the blankets when we would visit.
What beautiful memories you have. There is no better feeling then getting cozy with a warm beverage, and with a homemade quilt! Wow 😉 For some reason quilts represent comfort and love to me, perhaps because of all the work that goes into them! Maybe you and your grandson can learn more about your Danish heritage together. I am not sure if they have the Danish shortbread cookies in the blue tin where you are, but they may help him get interested in that Danish heritage. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

I just learned what Hygge meant. My partner got me a book about it for Christmas, since I have been fascinated with my Danish heritage. I knew about that feeling long before the word though. I described my perfect and cozy day in a post a few weeks ago. Going with the winter theme – it would be a snow storm. Wind howling over the apartment. Sulfur dissipating in the air from the newly lit candle. The couch full of blankets, and my partner beside me. Hot tea with milk and looking out the window… Ohhhh… *sigh*
