Raku pottery, vases, and gifts

Spring is nearly here and I have been trying to finish up a few little reno projects around the house. This includes a reimagining of my mantle place, because every home needs a heart and for our ours it will be the hearth.
Around here, winters are often grey and snowy, so when the sun breaks through the clouds, it makes it all the more special.
This painting is to celebrate those moments.
In honour of the return of ‘Game of Thrones’ this vase is named ‘Mother of Dragons’ after Daenrys Targaryen. Motherhood is always challenging, but imagine trying to raise three willful dragons. The daycare costs alone must cost a fortune and imagine trying to hire a nanny, though Arya may be a suitable candidate, and possible future sister-in-law.
And here is your first peak at my new raku sculpture! My goal when glazing this piece for the raku was to get some of the red/brown metallic colours on the piece of the trunk and some of golden silvery metallic colours elsewhere.
Name that Vase! Here is where you can suggest a name, create a story, poem or prose for this raku pottery vase.
I have been exploring some new raku pottery glazing techniques lately. Or at least new to me. This particular piece has a very ‘Easter’ feel to it. I like how the blues and pinks have blended and all of the different textures on the piece, but this is not the end of my experimentation.
One of the things that I love about pottery is the magic of raku. It is a real game changer. The kinds of effects you can get from this process are unlike those you can get from conventional firing techniques.
