Niles is a contemporary tribute to one of the most beloved symbols of ancient Egypt. This handcrafted raku hippo sculpture draws inspiration from the iconic blue faience hippopotamus figures that have captivated collectors and historians for thousands of years. Finished in luminous shades of turquoise with the distinctive crackled surface unique to the raku firing process, each piece is completely one of a kind.

In ancient Egyptian culture, the hippopotamus represented the life-giving power of the Nile, fertility, abundance, and renewal. This sculpture honours that enduring symbolism while celebrating the organic beauty of raku ceramics. The vibrant turquoise glaze evokes the shimmering waters of the Nile, while the smoky, unpredictable markings created during firing ensure that no two sculptures are ever exactly alike.
