This vase is named after a mythical city
Located in a mystical valley and enclosed by the Kunlun Mountains. This place has been immortalized in writing, film, television, music and now in pottery. Maybe you have heard of it?
Jem and the holograms journeyed there, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow woke up there in ‘Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow’, resorts have been named after it, Stevie Nicks named a solo album after this place and Scooby Doo (Shaggy too) found it!

This mythical utopia
Is considered to be an earthly paradise where the inhabitants age very slowly and are practically immortal. People here are fabled to live hundreds of years beyond an ordinary lifespan.
Shangri-la, much like the Garden of Eden is representative of a paradise hidden from today’s society. Something that many yearn for and seek, but few find.
Perhaps one day our global family can create Shangri-La on this Earth and this myth may become reality and we can all live in a utopia of our creation.
Shangri-La was also one of the pieces I included in my exhibit, ‘The Myth of Family’ at the Oxford Riverside Gallery. This vase is beautiful not only in how it appears, but also in what it represents. I would hope we as a species could find a way to set aside our hatred and violence, come together at last and build a utopia. It’s a nice dream. I have my doubts it will ever come close to happening, though. We seem to keep getting in our own way and end up killing each other. Surely it’s possible to change course at some point? I hope? *ponders meaning of life while gazing at gorgeous pottery* I think we must do our best to instill kindness, compassion and hope in each other, no matter the odds or the outcome. Otherwise, life has no meaning at all. Creating beauty is a step in a positive direction. Your fine craftsmanship is proof of this. 🙂

SHANGRI-LA is a perfect name of your gorgeous vase. I love the deep coppery colors. IMO, utopia is a frame of mind and it’s up to us as individuals to reach what we consider utopia. As far as worldwide utopia, I doubt it will happen. Mankind is too enthralled with themselves rather than want to spread goodwill and live in peace.
