A friend of mine recently had some sad news.
Their 18 year old house cat finally headed out on the rainbow road and her essence left this earth. From my past experience, when one loses a pet, it is like losing a family member. The loss of a pet leaves a hole in one’s heart and sadness in the soul.
My friend inquired if I had any urns that would be appropriate for pets as they wanted to purchase one. I had only made one urn before, but I volunteered to make them one. Looking past their grief, they suggested that I should be making them for others who have lost a pet. So while I was making an urn for their beloved kitty I made a prototype to add to the site:
I am really pleased with both how this piece and the one for my friend turned out and I will be adding it for sale and am in the process of making others. I hope to provide people with a beautiful, one of a kind, and affordable alternative in their time of grief to the commercial urns that are on the market. A cherished piece of beauty, much like the beloved they’ve lost.
The experience of making an urn was surprisingly beautiful, and of course a little sad. My friend was very happy with what I made for them (in a different glaze than this one), and the thought I was able to bring them a little bit of light in their time of sadness was both a relief and a blessing.
What colours do you think would help people find peace and comfort in their time of peace when losing a cherished four legged family member?

Just reading those words activated a place in my heart that belongs to my precious Pomeranian, Simon, who was stomped to death by deer in the back yard during the summer of 2017. He was old and hairless and so deaf, he never heard them come upon him. He was the only living creature who loved me more than anyone other living soul, and that’s how he made a mother of me. So when we lose a much beloved pet, it can be a very very significant loss. It makes me cry whenever I describe what happened to Simon. I knew he would’ve gone soon, but I hated the violence of it. I was so grief-struck, I just ordered what the vet suggested. But when it’s Cooper’s time (God help me), I’d love to buy one of these beautiful urns from you. They’re lovely. I mean it. ❤️
I am so sorry to hear of Simon and the way he passed. That is a real tragedy and I am sorry the both of you had to experience that. I feel the same way about my dog Maya in that I think she is the living soul who gives me unconditional love and I can’t bear to think of her passing, as she is getting more gray and slowing down. I lost a dog as a child once in a car accident, and that still has stuck with me to this day.

This is such a moving expression of kindness and compassion. If I were to find myself needing one of these urns, I think something in a teal color would be calming and tranquil. Or perhaps earth tones such as greens and browns.
Thank you for your very kind comment Mike. I am thinking of glazing some in blues because of the calming effect of that colour. I may try to do one that evokes a landscape feature, because I know my pets are happiest outside. I’ll be posting more pictures as I make more and get them fired. I hope you have a great weekend.

I’ve lost a few cat and dog friends over the years. I expect I will be very welcomed when I cross the rainbow bridge. When I lose the next one, I would expect a blue one. Blue for me is the color of hope, as represented in my expectation of crossing that bridge to be with them several years down the road.
I suspect you will be welcome by all your furry four legged friends. I kind of think of my self getting lots of puppy kisses and wishing I had more hands to be able to pet them all at once when I cross 😉 I love how you associate blue as a representation as you crossing the bridge to the rainbow road. What a beautiful idea. We buried Midna with her favourite mouse toy but if we had cremated her, an urn like this would have been lovely.
I think this white looks lovely, perhaps other calm colours like creams, blues, maybe greens?
That’s so lovely that you buried Midna with her favourite toy. Like an Egyptian pharoahess kitty! It seems cal colurs are the way to go.
