Life Before Pottery

Or Life B.P. – as I often call it

There was painting!

If you like what you see in this post, you can see more of my work here!

I am still team pottery all the way, but painting was my gateway drug to creativity!

What is your favourite creative medium to work in, if you have one?

  1. It used to be words (lyrics, poems, and blogging), but over the last few years I’ve (surprisingly to me) shifted to visual art, painting in particular.

I love your paintings, the one at the top in particular. The swatches of colour remind me a little bit of a Paul Klee painting I’ve been doing exercises from in my night class:

Love your pottery too. There’s a gallery near me that has a lot ceramics and raku pottery on display, and I can definitely see the appeal.

    1. I can see what you mean with the Paul Klee paintings, thank you for sharing that with me and a bit about yourself too 🙏

  2. I guess my medium is font. I am trying to create a sub-genre of writing that highlights various lingual realities in otherwise subjective text. My goal is to create a writing style that invokes the mystery of Christianity but at the exact same time grounds it in reality. Thanks for asking! I love the art and the pottery <3

  3. Beautiful! I love how the bright colors interlock to form a larger picture. I’ve tried my hand at clay sculpture a few times, but for the most part, I come back to writing as my main creative medium.

  4. My gateway drug was poetry… always thought I couldn’t do art but loved it… worked as a model for years before I realised that you can *learn* drawing, it’s not just a natural talent, and started an Art Foundation course at the age of 50. Discovered ceramics… new addiction!

  5. It’s good to have multiple interests/mode – they will feed off of each other.
All my creative time is currently (for the past x years) funneled into writing. On the rare occasions when I can pull myself away from the words, it’s music. I have a keyboard (self-taught), a guitar (self-taught again) a trumpet (I learned to play around 1966 or so), and a karaoke machine (although in the days when we could still be in physical stores, I didn’t need the machine to sing, much to my family’s embarrassment.)
