The past year has been a strange one.
Lots of changes in the world and our daily lives.
Many of us have grown as a result of this, mentally and maybe around the middle too!
Trying new things, when it’s your choice, can be fun; and that’s exactly how I feel about playing around with my raku glazes. In this glaze I love the metallic sheen, the iridescent colours, and the fact that underneath it’s shiny casing, these pieces are all still clay. These are all the same glaze.

It’s amazing to me that you have one single glaze turn out so unique for each and every one of these pieces. Beautiful!
Thank you Lainie! It is definitely a learning process but so much is left to the raku gods, that is for sure! 🙏
That’s both the frustration AND the beauty of raku.
how do you give them the sheen, do you use a kiln or pit fire, is it chemicals or just smoke, tell me I implore!
These vases are raku fired rather than pit fired – so the combination of glaze ingredients, kiln and reduction material is what makes what you are seeing here. More in this video here as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndtOymbS-eA
Amazing and beautiful work! My something new is that I’m working on my next book but doing all the formatting myself (with a little help from my techy son). It’s challenging, but also fun, and I’m excited for the finished product. A creative project just like your pottery. Have a great day!
Thank you for sharing! I remember when I wrote my book – the formatting was SO much work! definitely challenging but a very cool reward. Planning another book but not looking forward to the formatting part so much! 🙂 🙏
They’re lovely! Thank you for sharing!
Not a problem! So happy you enjoy reading it and following along, Julia!
Wow so amazing
Recently trying out making podcasts!!!!
I was writing these Daily Minutes in my blog, trying to make posts that could be read in a minute or so, when it struck me that I could record them! I found a way to do it on an app called Anchor and I am now starting to put those Daily Minute posts into podcast form!
Challenging to try to condense into a minute talk but doing my best and enjoying it! Hoping to also record some of my longer writings……
