It’s time to share our winner and feature another vase in need of a name! Welcome to my monthly feature – ‘Name that Vase’.
For those who are new to this feature, ‘Name that Vase’ is where you can suggest a name, create a story, poem or prose for this raku pottery vase. Consider this your chance to be inspired, a writing prompt or a creative cue. You can check out a ‘Name that Vase’ post to see how it works, or if you are feeling nostalgic, you can check out the first ever ‘Name that Vase’ post that started what has now become a monthly tradition for our blog and readers.
This month we have a very special vase for your naming, but first we must congratulate last time’s winner Ladysag77 for their name and write-up!
Congratulations!
Turquoise Sunrise
Brightly shining upon the horizon
Glistening effervescence hope is enlightened
Molded by mercy, grace and wisdom
Within the creators hand we rise out of a system
Faith restored, harmonious balance
Breathing new life into each challenge
Unity, the new theme of the day
Bow your head, allowing fears to be washed away
And into our new month!
Here is our vase for this month:
Please add what you think the name should be for this month’s vase and any associated poetry or story in the comments below.
Looking forward to reading your submissions!
If you have coronavirus on mind (as so many of us do right now) please check out this helpful post, B-B-B Bye Corona, Self-Care In The Time of Pandemic.
Beautiful vase, should be named Earthly Joy.
Kypros
below a cloudless sky
the island shimmers
like a green leaf floating
on an azure sea —
and further down,
beneath the mountain ranges
and the fertile plains,
the heat-hazed salt lake
and the ancient stone remains,
lies rich metallic bounty
that once gave this place its name.
Thank you so much, your artwork and craftsmanship are so inspiring! Keep making these beautiful pieces💙
Looks like a satellite view or a map. There is an Arthur C Clarke book about an alien vessel that is found entering the solar system. The ship is cylindrical and the inner surface is covered in growth and structures. I can’t think what the ship is called! Will have to look it up!
Love it!
The book is called rendezvous with Rama. I think I would name it Rama….
Primordial Horizon
Let the waters above
be separated from the waters below
and the heavens be separated from the Earth.
And let Euripides’ mother’s tale be told
in the synchrony of the fire’s glaze,
Let Rangi & Papa be rent apart
and their shrieks and groans
be carried in this simple vessel.
I love the vase :), beautiful.
I do like the shape. I would call it “Out of the Deep” because of the way the colours change.
A perfect name and poem, for such a lovely piece.
This lovely vase, should be called “Tara.” It’s the only thing that lasts. My poem is posted here: https://khartless.com/2021/02/10/name-that-vase-february-2021/
Shadowmaster
I see those shadows above me. I see the openings in front of me,
a peak of something more. I am to stand tall as I was oval, confined to my stature of benevolence.
Or how should I explain? I am the one, who stalks the tight corners in your eye,
One to behold,
but not to hold. I am the unknown in too many
whirlwinds. There is no door but there is no exit.
Just you. And me. Breathe me in.
Feel the air. I am simply your lifeline, without want or constraints.
What a perfect pairing of vase and name!
