Hindsight Is 2020

A new year is upon us

And though most of us are glad to see the back of 2020, it will never be said that last year wasn’t memorable.

It’s been a challenging and surreal year in so many ways, but it’s also been a year that has caused me to stretch and grow, and in that I can find some gratitude.

Yes, 2020 was the year face masks became the new fashion trend and politicians lied to us (an ongoing issue), where we lost loved ones, were locked down and the more fortunate among us started working from home.

But it was also the year many of us pulled together to protect those we love, our communities and became more resilient. We found new challenges that stretched and pulled us in unfamiliar and uncomfortable ways, but allowed us to grow. It was also a year that brought inequality into the spotlight and had many of us continuing to question the stratification of our current society based on class, race, finances and gender and searching for answers.

2021 is a new year, with new possibilities.

I am hopeful that this is the year that things in our world will change for the better. For me, I will continue to create and bring beauty to the world and follow my dreams of becoming a full time potter, because in a world with an invisible virus, we all need something to hang on to.

I wish all my readers a better year filled with love, good health and many unexpected BLESSINGS and JOY!

  1. A dear friend of mine has been without propane gas for heating for about a week due to a mistake by the gas company, and has had only one electric radiator to heat the whole house with temperatures hovering above freezing.
Today, Jan 1st, the tanker arrived !
2021 is ALREADY off to a great start !! 😀

    1. That is definitely a great start to have it repaired! I am glad your friend is more comfortable and safe in the new year! 🙏

  2. “For me, I will continue to create and bring beauty to the world and follow my dreams of becoming a full time potter, because in a world with an invisible virus, we all need something to hang on to.” Well said! Bringing beauty to the world is truly a gift for others. Best wishes for 2021!✨

  3. Happy New Year! You make beautiful art and I love reading the mythology stories. Yes, I agree. This year has been challenging and also rewarding in that I reconnected with some family members that I had been distant from. Hard times teach the value of relationship. Thanks, friend. Have a good 2021.

    1. ooh! Wonderful to hear, Stacy! So glad you like it! 🙂 If you would be comfortable sharing a photo of it in its new home, it would be great to see it! (it could be emailed to alchemistsstudio at email dot com 🙂

  4. Beautiful pieces here, and loving the new possibilities attitude – its nice to see others looking for some sliver linings and good things to take from the year and a way forward.

  5. Well said and this is the perfect line: “because in a world with an invisible virus, we all need something to hang on to.” I found more writing inspiration last year, and it came so fast that I could hardly write fast enough. But I do hope this year brings more sunshine for all, especially to those who lost loved ones regardless of the “how” and to those who are alone and isolated in lockdown. Happy New Year!

    1. Wonderful to hear! So glad you have found time to write and be inspired! May this year be softer for all and happy new year to you!
