Welcome!
I completed a raku pottery firing where I was hoping for some results with interesting textures. The kiln gods did not disappoint and here are a few of the results!
If you are interested in learning more about the process involved in making raku pottery, you can read more about it here.
I altered a few of the variables in the raku firing process to get these textured surfaces, and I am pleased with the results.
One of my favourite pieces from the firing, both in terms of form and finish, is this piece:
The brave blue and all the crackly goodness on this vase make me a very happy potter! You can check out more of our raku vases here.
Which vase or finish was your favourite?
These are striking in their deep saturation of color compared to the subtlety of texture. Beautiful.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I do love the depth of colour in these pieces. I hope you have a great weekend!
Thank you very much. Same to you. One of your works will end up in my house some day. I am sure of that.
That is an amazing compliment!
This is very interesting. Haven’t heart of this before. Shall read. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog. I hope you are well.
The crackled blue finish is so pretty. It reminds me of the matrix found in turquoise gemstones. The bold combination of blue and purple is also outstanding.
Thanks so much for your kind words. I really love the contrast of colours and textures. The deep blue is my favourite and I can see what you mean as to how it resembles turquoise. I hope you have a great weekend!
Thanks. You too!
Beautiful finishes – I love them all but I think my fav is the crackled blue finish as well but that purple is pretty wow too. You’ve been busy!!!
Thanks so much for your kind comment. I really appreciate the crackle blue finish, those lines of that pieces have made such a great pattern! I hope you enjoy your Friday!

Unique and beautiful vases. I think raku firing and ecoprint/dyeing are similar in sometimes unexpected outcomes
Thanks for your kind words. I think part of what I love about Raku is that there is a level of unpredictability that leads to happy surprises (and some not so happy ones). I hope you have a great weekend!
I love the blue! π
Thanks so much! I hope you have a great weekend!
Thank you! π And you, as well!

Wow! Beautiful creations
Thank you so much for your kind words! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
I love raku fired pottery as well. It has so much βcharacterβ. I see these pieces enhanced and complimented on display with highly textured and colour harmonized weavings beneath and behind them- and ikebana style arrangements nearby. Lovely posts. Thank you. ππβ¨
Thank you so much for your very kind comment! I really like the idea of displaying these with weavings and the ikebana would be a lovely touch!
Great post, beautiful ceramic products.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I hope you are having a great week!
This looks so pretty π!!! Amazing work!
Thank you so much for your very kind words! I hope you enjoy the rest of the week!
I love this!!!
Thanks so much!
The textures give the vases character and make them all that more appealing. Variations in texture create crevices and dimples giving the colors more variation. Your creations are awesome. Thank you for following BrewNSpew.
You are 100 percent correct in what you are saying. The glazes actually react with the textures of the pieces too. There are some amazing effects that I have gotten on the inside of vases. I am thinking of making a double walled vase at some point with pieces removed/altered.
This is extraordinarily beautiful. Wow
Keep Glittering, from TGA by Misha π
