After the weeks of hot sunny days and humid nights gave way to hot cloudy days with dark clouds and not a single drop coming from them – it finally rained last night.
When it began yesterday evening, we ran outside and jumped up and down, knowing that the rain would help the plants thrive and ensure a greater harvest come fall.
The next morning, what was left of the rain is mostly dried up now, absorbed into the soil or evaporated by the sun, but it brought with it waves of relief, gratitude,
and a shift in perspective.
I am reminded that we can never water the garden as well as a good rain can.

As you will soon read about, we had a deluge here last evening. About an inch in a 1/2 hour, and then some more. Knocked over staked tomatoes, took power out… . Believe you me, if I could send some your way, I would!

The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain. Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet. Rain is grace; rain is the sky descending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life. The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain.

Here too. In Kentucky. Three days of steady rain. Our garden loved it, as did we. The heat and humidity have returned; however, if the tomatoes are to ripen, we must have heat and sunshine.

As Suzette writes, Amen! Rain is a blessing and nothing brings that home like a period of hot dry weather. When I lived in the Sonoran Desert I learned how Native Americans of that land regarded rain as sacred. Prayers were sent up for the Rain. When it finally does come, in Tucson, it floods the streets. People stop their cars and get out and stand in the deluge laughing and sighing. Let us always see the natural Earth as a blessing to be cherished and protected. I am grateful that we have it, not just for the garden, but for all life here on Earth!
This is why I save rainwater. Even a decent moderate of overnight rain can net me 150 gallons of water. And initially, I get to not having to water my veggies and other plants for a couple of days before using the collected water. Love when it rains around here in SD County.

We could use some rain here in Arizona. It is raining up north today, so that is nice. Nothing better then walking out into a rainstorm and letting yourself soak up water from the heavens. Rain smells wonderful too. Love that last photo or yours. Have a rain filled weekend.

This summer has been strangely dry here to- tomorrow might be the first 4th that the fireworks display won’t get rained/stormed out. 🤞

In the main garden here foodwise its potatoes peas lettuce corn beets carrots raspberries strawberries currants kale beans groundcherries sunflowers tomatoes broccoli cauliflower peppers grapes spinach onions garlic
Outside of food, this garden has a number of perennial herbs and flowers (some edible) as well
