Spring Forward and Win!

Happy Spring everyone!

To the casual observer, this may seem like any other start of spring. However, the human world is in great chaos with fears firmly rooted in a deadly virus that is changing the way we live.

An annual ritual here at this time of year is starting seeds for the growing season. This year will be no different:

It has often been stated that planting seeds and growing your own garden is an act of faith and hope. For some reason that seems a little more true this year. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any toilet paper seeds though.

In our house we have been self-isolating in order to protect the health of our community and ourselves. Here we have worked from home well before the pandemic, so things have not changed all that much. Throw in the fact that I am an introvert and I am holding up well. Now only, if I could stop checking the number of new cases several times a day and listening to the news.

I hope that you and all of my readers are safe and have everything that they need to get through this unprecedented time. I know it is hard to not feel fear and anxiety during this crazy time, but maybe some of the ideas here may help. Make sure you take care of yourself and others. If you or someone you know are affected by the coronavirus, or you are feeling anxious about it, you can add your intention for healing to our ‘Healing Vase’ project for 2020 here. It is a community based art project that can help bring people together safely at this time.

I am also happy to announce a giveaway that we will be doing here at the pottery. Some of you may know that we have a newsletter that we send out a few times a year to keep people updated on our latest creations and special offers.

Once we hit 300 subscribers, we will be drawing for two prizes that will include a copy of our book ‘A Potters Dream: Myths & Legends’ an art print and piece of jewelery for one of the lucky winners. You can subscribe to our Newsletter by clicking here. Don’t worry, if you are already a subscriber, you are automatically entered.

How has life changed for you during the coronavirus? Are you self isolating? How are you spending your time?

  1. Life’s not too different for me. I, too, am an introvert (except online and/or in writing). There is a concert I wanted to go to in May that will likely be canceled, and the paranoia keeps me from playing my favorite sport with my brother (tennis). We can still go on hikes through the woods, though. Simultaneously proud of the community response and sorrowful for those who are sick and/or have lost loved ones. The psychological impact is also immense, for example upon those with anxiety/OCD/schzio-spectrum disorders/depression/etc.

    1. I think this is taking a big mental toll on all of us. I can relate to the cautious paranoia feeling for certain. It is hard to justify doing much these days with the possibility of such serious consequences. Like you, I have been getting out in nature and enjoying that, which is helpful to take my mind off of what is happening. Stay safe and well, wishing you and yours all the best!

  2. Reality is indeed odd right now. We have to think hard about how we do things, so we can keep clear of the infection. We are now home and have been grocery shopping, so know we will be able to eat. Still a lot of cleaning of our luggage and contents to do, but making progress. We are still a couple of months away from garden planting, but can’t wait to get at it and reap the rewards. Stay well. Stay well. Allan

    1. Thanks for your kind comment Allan. It is funny how many simple things we used to take for granted, like grocery shopping. As of this week, we are now ordering our groceries online from the store and picking up the delivery, which they put right in the trunk. Then we are leaving it outside overnight before we bring it in. Maybe over-cautious, but better safe than sorry. I am glad you got home safely and wishing you and yours all the best. Stay healthy and safe!

  3. I’m a home body so staying in is normal yet I feel the fear as we all do. Stay safe up there my friend., be well! 🇨🇦

    1. Thank you for your kind comment! I suppose this is the age of the homebody/introvert. Stay safe and well and wishing you all the best!

  4. Happy Seasons – though not so happy times! I wasn’t going to do seedlings this year – the ongoing drama to keep watered! But I’m glad to see you generating anew 🙂

    1. We have that same drama here in this house, but so far so good 😉 I hope you and your beautiful family all stay well and safe! Wishing you all the best.

    1. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Wishing you all the best and stay safe and healthy!

  5. Much the same for me too …although am only now getting back to being able to focus on painting.
Less news is a good idea. At this point keeping up to date with any new information on how to keep everyone safe can be done once a day and the rest of the time I am finding it healthier to stay away from the news. Lots of outdoor time – so grateful for the wonderful spring weather here.
    Take good care!

    1. Yes I know what you mean by just being able to get back to your art. It has taken sometime for my brain to adjust to the new reality that we find ourselves in. I am working on getting my updates down to twice a day, which has not been easy, but so far so good. Our weather has not been great, lots of grey days, but getting out for those walks regardless and it seems to help.
Wishing you all the best and take care and stay safe!

  6. I didn’t start any seeds this year, but I have planted all of the spring garden seeds. So in just a few weeks we will be good to go on lettuce, baby greens, spinach. As you know, on account of the hurricanes, tornadoes, etc., we stay prepared. John works from home 2-3 days per week (+ weekends) so that the university is closed is no big deal. We already have a routine.

If I am doing anything differently, it’s blogging a big more and making a concerted effort to read others’ blogs more.

Oh! I do try to be outside about the time when the mailman drives up so I can wave to him! It’s social interaction– at about 50 yards!

    Stay well!

    1. It is great that you are prepared and that you have a routine. I imagine the university has closed already? All of the schools have closed here in Canada.

I am envious that your greens are ready. I am hoping that our greens have self seeded in the greenhouse like they usually do each year 😉

It sounds like you and your mailman are practising good social distancing! I am going to have to sort something out with my postperson next week when I go to get our mail. Wishing you and all yours the best!

    1. Thanks for taking the time to comment 😉 Maybe if I plant one sheet of toilet paper it will grow into a roll? I hope you are keeping safe and well, wishing you all the best!

  7. I too am an introvert so staying at home wouldn’t be too hard on me. It’s the paycheck I really need. I wash my hands and cover my mouth when I cough or sneeze. Mostly I take everything one day at a time because who knows what tomorrow may bring.

    1. I am guessing you are working at a job where working from home is not an option? I think many people are having the same problem of weighing out the ever present need to get paid to surivive versus the health concerns with the coronavirus. I am glad you are taking as many precautions as you can. You are right that all we can do is take things one day at a time. Wishing you good health and all the best in these strange times.

      1. working at home not an option. It is considered essential. I have to ride public transportation so I take care of myself the best I can. I really miss going to church and singing in choir.

  8. Thank you for the beautiful and kind post. I have been homebound for months owing to sickness so nothing is different for me. The world however feels sometimes cold and hostile now so I try to find comfort with friends and online through kind people like you!

    1. I am really sorry to hear that you are sick and away from home. I hope you are feeling better soon and able to get back home. I think many people are scared now and fearful of what could happen. Hopefully things will get better for us all. Wishing you all the best!

  9. I’m isolating as much as I can, and so is my husband. He has to go to the office once a week to run payroll, but when he does, he’s the only one there. I have to go to the shelter to help with the dogs, but it’s closed to the public and we have hand sanitizer everywhere and are constantly using it, along with keeping distance from other people. There are some things that just can’t be done from home. Otherwise, except for trips for supplies, we just stay home for now. This won’t last forever.

    1. its coming! glad to hear you have the greenhouse ready. Need to do that here too!

    1. being silly as so many people were hoarding toilet paper when Covid19 started around here

      1. Oh. In India we don’t use toilet paper. I was curious to know about all the toilet paper memes. Thanks. Do spend some quality time here in my blog

  10. So many new rituals indeed! As for me, work has become mostly done at the house and several new hobbies, such as binge-watching and cooking have developed for me😃 Great post! By the way, please join my blog too if you find it interesting – let’s grow together!😊

    1. Oh I do love cooking as well! having the time now makes all the difference for it.

  11. I had to take a break from all the numbers being reported, it is so hard to hear because those are people not just numbers but real human beings. Love that little tree you did and also so happy you have a garden going too. Stay safe where you are and have a beautiful Sunday.

  12. This is wonderful! I’m especially interested in your Healing Vase Project and will definitely contribute. It’s a great idea.
Thanks for sharing this, and stay well.

  13. Times are so difficult right now. I know gardening bring a sense of the normal and what better time than spring. We will get rover this.
