Some of my regular readers may be familiar with some of my past art projects like ‘The Healing Vase’, which allow for audience/community participation. I am about to launch a new project, in part inspired by the joy that project brought me, and by the current chaos in the world due to the global pandemic of the coronavirus.
My concept for this piece is to allow the process of raku and the flames of reduction to act as a communal intention and prayer for a better world. I am hoping that other dreamers will join me by commenting with their hopes and dreams for how our world could be a better place.
I will be printing or reproducing all of your comments to use as the reduction material in the firing process of this vase. For those unfamiliar with raku, you can view the video below to see what this firing process entails:

For this particular project, I would like people to think about how the pandemic has impacted the world or your community and the changes you would like to see to make the world a better place. You can see some of the discussions that people are having about this here, and I hope you will add your voice.

To heal the divisions in this country. To find a more equitable future where all are equal and heal the pain of our oppressive past. To embrace the change that comes and unite for a better future.
It’s such a lovely idea and the vase is beautiful. I’d love for people to care more about the things they see around them, and less about how other people ‘see’ them. It sounds a small thing, but its impact is huge and places such value on being ‘better’ than others. From spending vast sums on ‘must-have’ items to being obsessed with impressing an image of themselves on people. Posing for endless filtered selfies is the perfect snapshot of that mindset. Rather than valuing the things about people that truly matter.
Just love one another!

As I read this beautiful post it made me think of one of my favorite scriptures that points to a peaceful future. “ With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:3,4)
It is my hope that this promise will be soon realized.
