For those who are new to this feature, ‘Name that Vase’ is where you can suggest a name, create a story, poem or prose for this raku pottery vase. Consider this your chance to be inspired, a writing prompt or a creative cue. This month we have a very special vase for your naming, but first we must announce last month’s winner (and two runner’s up!) So without further ado, the winner is Zakarrie with the name “Cerulean Skies at Sunrise.”

“Temple of Aphrodite”
I associate the shape of the vase with a female body and the goddess Aphrodite, who is also considered the goddess of flowers.

I would call it ‘Blueberry Crumble’ but that’s just for a laugh.The colour is so soft and gentle it almost looks like material, or clouds or foam. Then, with the light on it, it is almost shell-like.Lovely.

The color made me think of winter skies, the shape like a snowman and the texture like the sidewalk after it snows and the snowplow has come through and left some snow, ice and gravel on the sidewalk. How about Winter Goddess for a name.

That piece reminds me of the goddess Athena. I mean, observe its intricate and delicate pattern. So fragile yet powerful. I love it.
I can see the correlation, though I think when I pay tribute to Athena it is going to be a larges and more special piece. She would insist upon it.It’s an intersting piece with the different textures. Thank you for your kind comment and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
“Cerulean Skies at Sunrise” is a wonderful name for the December vase! Good pick! I really like the lighter color scheme of the January vase; it’s very cool. I’m going to think it over a bit more, then comment again once I have a name!
Ergonomic shape for sure, I love it! I like the idea of “message in a bottle” because you could put one inside, but the piece in itself evokes so many different motifs from its colour, texture, size, etc.
Beautiful vase. Contemplating its name brought me to a serene zen garden situated in front of a temple and the vase became the beautiful bell suspended on it’s large post – standing boldly between the garden and the temple!
