Name That Vase – January 2020 Edition

Hello and happy new year! Welcome to a new decade and also to my monthly feature – ‘Name that Vase’.

For those who are new to this feature, ‘Name that Vase’ is where you can suggest a name, create a story, poem or prose for this raku pottery vase. Consider this your chance to be inspired, a writing prompt or a creative cue. You can check out a ‘Name that Vase’ post to see how it works, or if you are feeling nostalgic, you can check out the first ever ‘Name that Vase’ post that started what has now become a monthly tradition for our blog and readers.

This month we have a very special vase for your naming, but first we must announce last month’s winner (and two runner’s up!) So without further ado, the winner is Zakarrie with the name “Cerulean Skies at Sunrise.”
Congratulations, Zakarrie!

Runners up include Stroke Survivor UK for “Spirit of the North” and MJ Seal for “Corse du Sud

And now for our January vase which is without a name! What do you think this one should be called?

  1. “Temple of Aphrodite”
I associate the shape of the vase with a female body and the goddess Aphrodite, who is also considered the goddess of flowers.

    1. Thank you for your comment! I appreciate your name and I can definitely see the shape referring to the body.

  2. I love the texture of this vase. It makes you want to reach out and run your fingers over the surface.
“Destiny’s finger print” or “Destiny’s embossed beauty”

    Cheers Susan.

    1. Thanks for your kind comment, Susan. The texture really stands out on this one – like a fingerprint!

  3. I would call it ‘Blueberry Crumble’ but that’s just for a laugh. The colour is so soft and gentle it almost looks like material, or clouds or foam. Then, with the light on it, it is almost shell-like.Lovely.

  4. Beautiful vase, as always! Here’s what it took from me :)…

    Antediluvian

    Sunken treasure
    Speak to me
    Your shell is cracked
    But the shape
    Stands clear
    Beauty
Be it in the eye of the beholder
    Your glamor
    Does not stammer
As you waltz your waltz with me
    Take a bow
    A fleeting moment
    And see

  5. The color made me think of winter skies, the shape like a snowman and the texture like the sidewalk after it snows and the snowplow has come through and left some snow, ice and gravel on the sidewalk. How about Winter Goddess for a name.

  6. That piece reminds me of the goddess Athena. I mean, observe its intricate and delicate pattern. So fragile yet powerful. I love it.

    1. I can see the correlation, though I think when I pay tribute to Athena it is going to be a larges and more special piece. She would insist upon it.It’s an intersting piece with the different textures. Thank you for your kind comment and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  7. “Cerulean Skies at Sunrise” is a wonderful name for the December vase! Good pick! I really like the lighter color scheme of the January vase; it’s very cool. I’m going to think it over a bit more, then comment again once I have a name!

  8. Ergonomic shape for sure, I love it! I like the idea of “message in a bottle” because you could put one inside, but the piece in itself evokes so many different motifs from its colour, texture, size, etc.

  9. Beautiful vase. Contemplating its name brought me to a serene zen garden situated in front of a temple and the vase became the beautiful bell suspended on it’s large post – standing boldly between the garden and the temple!

    1. Thank you for such a thoughtful and meaningful comment and sharing what this piece evoked for you in your mind. What a beautiful honour it would be to have this vase be near a temple as you say as a bell. Such a beautiful and fruitful imagination you have. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend so far!

      1. I am glad that the image of the vase being the bell resonated beautifully with you…my weekend was wonderful and I hope that yours was as well…l

    1. Thank you for the name suggestion. The shape lends it’s self well to the name 😉 I hope you have a great weekend!
