Welcome to my monthly feature – ‘Name that Vase’.
For those who are new to this feature, ‘Name that Vase’ is where you can suggest a name, create a story, poem or prose for this raku pottery vase. Consider this your chance to be inspired, a writing prompt or a creative cue. You can check out a ‘Name that Vase’ post to see how it works, or if you are feeling nostalgic, you can check out the first ever ‘Name that Vase’ post that started what has now become a monthly tradition for our blog and readers.
Our vase for this month, with it’s greens and coppery reds might evoke Christmas for some, or perhaps the alien lizard queen Diana from the 1980’s miniseries ‘V’.

I immediately thought along a verdigris theme, too.
But I do enjoy when you name something from mythology, and we get a little bit of a lesson alongside a beautiful vase.
I can see why you would think that for this piece! I just posted one of my vases and stories this morning 😉 I hope you are doing well and have a great weekend ahead. I sent the book off to print yesterday after some back and forth with the printer. Very excited!
Yes I saw that. I’m pretty hopeless at myhology, I recognise some of the names, but no more. Always good to have a tiny lesson. The Greeks and Romans certainly had bronze, so copper must have been known, and presumably, verdigris, so maybe there is a mythological link? You have an excellent weekend, too.
I am going to have to see if there is a mythological link or story with verdigris, maybe do a little research, so don’t be surprised if you see a story along those lines 😉
Jungle Volcano!

I see copper and verdigris. I see bubble patterns on the side… I imagine a salamander living in the base of it, in water or creeping out into a copper and gold leaf litter with mossy trunk above? ‘SALAMANDER’ is what I would name it…

This might be my favorite piece of yours yet! My favorite color is green, so I might be a little jaded ;). A more playful piece protruded from my grasp when I saw this vase…so here goes!

Gertrude Bell, the queen of the desert, was leading her caravan to the next tribe on her map. She stoped in a oasis. A prince, Kobe, also happened to have stoped by there for the night . Star struck by this beautiful courageous woman, with auburn hair and green eyes, he asked the alchemist in town if he could make something special for her, that she will carry and remember him. The alchemist did, it was a vase….a vase in the color of her hair and eyes. He called the vase Gertrude, because it represented her beauty , her resilience , her brilliance .
And …this is a story I made up, but Gertrude Bell was real, she was beautiful , courageous and special .

I’m thinking “Ares” or “Mars “- the reddish portions look like the rusty surface of the planet named for the God of War – esp w/ the craters. The green could b the alien sky 🤗👽 Tres jolie combinaison de couleurs.
I can totally see the Mars/Ares reference and you are right, the surface looks like Mars in parts, and the alien sky reference of the green is on point. I have another vase I called Mars, which is a red rust. I do see the alien landscape in this one. Thank you for being a part of Name that Vase!

My name for it is Dara – From the Irish Mac Dara, which means “oak tree”. This was the name of a 6th-century saint from Connemara. It is also used as an Anglicized form of DÁIRE.
