Planning The Dream

Winter is coming! And if I needed any reminder, the weather here lately has provided it for me! Cold and snowy for $500, Alex! Sorry for the nerdy Jeopardy reference!

Many of you may have surmised that I am working on building up my pottery studio with the intention of creating a livelihood that I love. It’s a lot of work, but one of the things I enjoy most about it is developing new items that I hope people will appreciate having in their home.

Over the last few days I have been working on these pillar candle holders, and I am hoping they will be a hit! These two pieces have already gone through the bisque firing and are ready for glazing and the raku treatment!

If you choose these as a perk with the book, you can choose the colour!

I think these pieces have the potential to show off the effect of the raku glazing very nicely! And I will be making a very large one for my own home for the coffee table, but I have other plans for these two pieces!

As many of you know, my crowdfunding campaign for my new book is nearing the end. It’s been quite the journey and I am grateful to all those who have chosen to support it. As a final perk offering, I would like to offer one of these pillar candle holders, glazed in your choice of colour.

There are other opportunities to get a piece of pottery with the book. You can get a copy of the book with a Christmas ornament, Buddha necklace, a raku pottery owl, or even a vase that is in the book. Just 36 hours left! Of course you can also contact me here to buy any of these items without the book.

Some of the potential perks of crowdfunding, or you can buy them without the book!

You can check out the crowdfunding campaign here, in case you haven’t!

Can you think of any items you would like to see me try to make out of clay and fire in raku? Keep in mind I can’t make anything that involves food and raku fire it, though I am open to making non-raku items. I would love to hear your ideas and suggestions, and who knows, you might see an idea of yours unfold here on this site in the coming months.

    1. Thank you! I made a really big one last night for our dining room table. I will post a picture of it tomorrow. I agree a pair of them at each end of the mantle would look fantastic!

  1. Love the owl! Have you ever tried making skulls? I don’t think I’ve seen you post anything like that before. They could be stylized so they’re more cartoony than anatomically correct.

    1. Thank you! I have thought about making skulls. I am planning to sculpt one sometime over the winter and then possibly make it into a plaster mold if all goes well! So you may see one soon. I hope you are having a great week so far!

    1. I have been thinking a lot of incorporating my painting skills into pottery, it may happen next year. I also want to play with different colours of clay too. I have plans to make a chandelier which will be in porcelain, just starting some of the components for it now, it is going to be a big project. Thanks for the ideas! I hope you are having a wonderful week so far!

      2. Livin’ on a Prayer 😉 And dream! I really appreciate your kind encouragement so much! I appreciate the ideas. I have already started some planning for 2020. I have to get ready for my next show in June! Hope you are well and having a wonderful week so far.

  2. I’ve seen some really cool kitchen sponge holders, that might be an idea of something new to make? I also can’t resist cute small bowls, like to hold jewelry while washing dishes! (Yes, I’ve been washing too many dishes lately!)

    1. Thanks for the ideas Tiffany! I do have some cool little bowls that would serve that purpose. I should try and post them sometime! I can relate to washing too many dishes! I hope your week is off to a great start, other than the dishes 😉
