It has been over a week since I started my project, ‘A Vase of Healing’ and I really wanted to express my gratitude for all those who are participating in this project. So many beautiful wonderful souls from so many different places in the world are involved, and that really touches my heart.
For those of you not in the know, ‘A Vase of Healing’ is participatory art project for those experiencing grief or pain. My concept for this piece is to allow the process of raku and the flames of the reduction process to act as a healing tonic for your grief and pain, for mine, and for all who to choose to participate in this process collectively. The end result – transforming pain and grief into an object of beauty. You can see some examples below of what we can create together through this collaborative process:

I will be accepting entries into the last week of October. I hope to complete the vase firing November 1st, if the weather decides to cooperate.
Because this is a participatory art project, I wanted to give everyone a choice as to which vase we should use for this project. Let me know in the comments which shape you would like to see for ‘A Vase of Healing’.
I have also decided that I want to include this project and the resulting raku pottery vase in my book I am working on – ‘A Potter’s Dream: Myths & Legends’. For me it is the most significant art project that I have worked on. I will be releasing more information about my book very soon! So stay tuned. Hmm- I guess either could work- the talker makes me think of something that would hold flowers or greenery- the shorter – well could work as that- though it also looks more urn like.

This is a hard one because I like both shapes. I like the wider one because it can hold more flowers or pretty little succulents arranged at the top. Combine the meaning of what the pot represents (love that) with more life, because the two together make it that much more beautiful when finished.

Have added my comment to ytour original post… and cried for hours.. So thankfull you did have this idea and give me and others the change to burn in raku-fire our ails and blessings. When I still was able to do pottery, I loved raku most of all. Because it was not able to foetell the excact outcome. And because the outcome always was a thing I, as a potter, or the client for whom I did make the item, I could need as a lesson in life/karma etc. I see in your work and blogs you know this also 🙂

As a former potter you can relate to this in a way most can’t and that makes this experience even more special for me. The mystery and anticipation of raku is by far my favourite part. For me it is magic and I feel blessed to be able to create in this way. I hope this project is able to bring you some comfort. I prefer the taller vase. There’s something about the hourglass shape that gives a more “healing” look and energy to me, it looks more “complete” if that makes sense.

For me the taller one spoke to me the most. Because of it’s shape. It reminds me of how we go through various things in our lives. Some cause more pressure than others, but all help to shape us into the beautiful vessels God created us to be.
