How To Be Part Of A Community of Healing

It has been over a week since I started my project, ‘A Vase of Healing’ and I really wanted to express my gratitude for all those who are participating in this project. So many beautiful wonderful souls from so many different places in the world are involved, and that really touches my heart.

Another evening throwing in the studio to soothe my soul.

For those of you not in the know, ‘A Vase of Healing’ is participatory art project for those experiencing grief or pain. My concept for this piece is to allow the process of raku and the flames of the reduction process to act as a healing tonic for your grief and pain, for mine, and for all who to choose to participate in this process collectively. The end result – transforming pain and grief into an object of beauty. You can see some examples below of what we can create together through this collaborative process:

You can still participate in this project. Check out our original post here for more details. To participate in this project, please comment on the original post. I will be accepting entries into the last week of October. I hope to complete the vase firing November 1st, if the weather decides to cooperate.

Because this is a participatory art project, I wanted to give everyone a choice as to which vase we should use for this project. Let me know in the comments which shape you would like to see for ‘A Vase of Healing’.

Which of these unglazed vases do you prefer? The taller one or the wider one?

I have also decided that I want to include this project and the resulting raku pottery vase in my book I am working on – ‘A Potter’s Dream: Myths & Legends’. For me it is the most significant art project that I have worked on. I will be releasing more information about my book very soon! So stay tuned. You can be sure not to miss this information by subscribing to my newsletter:

We are also having a sale for the month of October on our raku pottery pieces and you can learn more about those details here. Feel free to check out more of my raku vases here. And be sure to let me know which vase is your choice to be ‘A Vase of Healing’.

Thank you again to all those who choose to participate in this project and for reading.

    2. Which one for healing? the one on the right, itโ€™s wide lip more ready to receive the love and positivity, itโ€™s girth able to hold it all. โค๏ธ

      1. I love this beautiful sentiment! Thank you so much for voting for a vase. How are you doing? I hope all is well!

    1. Thank you Esbie! That means so much to me coming from a beautiful soul like you. Sending love xox

  1. Hmm- I guess either could work- the talker makes me think of something that would hold flowers or greenery- the shorter – well could work as that- though it also looks more urn like.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and for your comment MJ. I can see what you are saying about the urn like appearance of the one piece. I hope you have had a great weekend!

    1. Thanks for your comment and sharing your impressions Christine. I hope you have had a wonderful weekend. It looks like you have been busy making beautiful art ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. This is a hard one because I like both shapes. I like the wider one because it can hold more flowers or pretty little succulents arranged at the top. Combine the meaning of what the pot represents (love that) with more life, because the two together make it that much more beautiful when finished.

    1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I do love the idea of being able to ‘fill’ A Vase of Healing with even more beautiful things! I hope you are having a great week so far!

  3. Have added my comment to ytour original post… and cried for hours.. So thankfull you did have this idea and give me and others the change to burn in raku-fire our ails and blessings. When I still was able to do pottery, I loved raku most of all. Because it was not able to foetell the excact outcome. And because the outcome always was a thing I, as a potter, or the client for whom I did make the item, I could need as a lesson in life/karma etc. I see in your work and blogs you know this also ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you so much for your very kind comment and words Cecile. They mean a lot to me and I am really happy to hear that you are grateful and interested in being involved in this project. As a former potter you can relate to this in a way most can’t and that makes this experience even more special for me. The mystery and anticipation of raku is by far my favourite part. For me it is magic and I feel blessed to be able to create in this way. I hope this project is able to bring you some comfort. I plan on filming the reduction and hope to complete this on/around November 1st. Thank you again so much. Your words humble me.

    1. I very much love that sentiment and your comment. I hope you are well and having a wonderful weekend!

  4. I prefer the taller vase. There’s something about the hourglass shape that gives a more “healing” look and energy to me, it looks more “complete” if that makes sense.

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and let me know which vase you prefer. Your impressions are very interesting, and I can see what you mean as there is a greater delicateness in that piece. I hope you are well and have had a wonderful weekend!

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I can understand what you mean by it having some gravitas. I hope you had a nice weekend!

    1. Thank you for your kind words Florence and for taking the time to comment I hope you have had a great weekend!

    1. Thanks Eugenia! I love the idea that the wider vase holds more magic and comfort. A very insightful observation. I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

      1. And thank you for supporting my book project! It really means so much to me that you would! Feeling very grateful for that! Hope you are well!

  5. For me the taller one spoke to me the most. Because of itโ€™s shape. It reminds me of how we go through various things in our lives. Some cause more pressure than others, but all help to shape us into the beautiful vessels God created us to be.

    1. That is a really beautiful analogy Deborah and I can see how that works for a metaphor for how we go through life. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and I hope your week is off to a great start!

      1. You are most welcome, amazing pieces! Thank you yes, I am another day above ground, lots to be thankful for!๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™

      2. haha! I remember my grandfather used to say each morning we were there ‘If I wake up in the morning, it’s a good day!’ Enjoy the weekend!

  6. It’s such a beautiful idea. โค๏ธThe taller one feels as if it might help funnel pain away and free up some healing space.๐Ÿฅฐ
