With a name like ‘raku’, this pottery technique creates high expectations. This word of Japanese origin means ‘pleasure, comfort, ease, enjoyment or delight’, and for me, it lives up to the hype.
In fact, I find the process to be magical.
Some of the magic of raku pottery!
The biggest pull of raku pottery for me is the fact that you must embrace the unexpected. While the raku process for pottery leads to unexpected results, it also leads to unique one of a kind pieces of art.
Raku is a technique that is not without risk. You are moving pots at nearly 1000 degrees celsius. You are putting these pots into combustible material. Things get very hot. And sometimes, even when you do everything right, a piece will still crack and break.
But then sometimes pure magic is revealed and your efforts are rewarded. Raku has indeed been a comfort and eased my soul, the results have delighted my senses which has brought me great pleasure.
In the coming weeks, I will be sharing this comfort and enjoyment with you all. I am currently revamping my website so that you will be able to purchase a piece of your very own raku pottery. In October, I will be offering free shipping to the first four people in Canada who purchase a piece of pottery. If you are interested, be sure to check out my vases here. You can reserve your spot, by sending me a message here.
An assortment of our various raku pottery creations!
For all of my readers elsewhere, I will be offering the first four people from other parts of the world a ten percent discount. I could not leave you all out of the fun!
Thank you all for reading my blog and all of your kind support and encouragement. You inspire me to keep creating!

Thank you so much John! I hope you have been having a great weekend.
The triad set of photos, after the first paragraph you wrote…. the photo in the upper right corner, it looks almost metallic? 😍
Yes it does have that look to it for sure, but it is actually pottery and the effect is from the minerals in the glaze and the result of the reduction process. Kind of cool isn’t it! Hope you had a great weekend!
❤️ the owl 🦉- everything else to!

Good weekend here. Hope yours was, too. Will give both Missy & Rocky a pat on the head for you!
Thank you! Hope you are having a great day.
I love it – it’s so lovely.
Thank you! I hope your week is off to a great start!
I burnt off my eyelashes carelessly opening the bung on my gas kiln on a reduction firing so know the dangers🤣
haha! It sure sounds like you do 😉 The hairs on my fingers are usually singed 😉
..I’ll be looking there (at the new sight and vases on sale) to grab a vase (or 3) once I move into a new house.
Great! Looking forward to connecting around that when the time is right!
Beautiful pieces! A friend of mine said the same things about raku when she did a workshop last year. I’ve been thinking of doing it myself but am a bit worried about that open flame thing. 😂
It is pure magic! Just be ready to take a few steps back once you place the piece and get the workshop leader to place any additional reduction materials 😉 I would love to hear your impressions if you do give it a try. I hope your week is off to a great start!
