It was a busy weekend for us here at the Alchemist’s Studio, including a day trip by the sea, some work on the studio and a raku firing!
Maybe our seaside voyage inspired this latest piece called Ogopogo!
Raku Vase Ogopogo 
The Ogopogo, also known as N’ha-a-itk (Salish), is reported to live in Lake Okanagan in British Columbia, Canada. Ogopogo is commonly described as a 40 – 50 foot long sea monster resembling the extinct Basilosaurus.
The First Nations people thought N’ha-a-itk was a water spirit, rather than a literal monster. You can see more images of this vase here and learn more about the Ogopogo. You can also see more vases and read there stories here!
This weekend I also spent sometime visiting one of the many beautiful beaches here on the East Coast. Words can not adequately describe the beauty of our shores.
This summer I have been encountering many eagles, both on my road trip adventures and close to home. I have finally managed to capture one on film in this photo.
It almost feels like they are watching over me, after a rough start to my year.
We also stopped at one of the great antiquing spots, where I picked up this new to me privacy screen for the studio. It was a great deal and completely quirky and oddly beautiful!

We have actually recently seen eagles close to our house, in southern Michigan, so majestic. Looks like a fun trip!
It is incredible to spot Eagles. This summer I have come across them more times than I can count, which is unusual, but I am not complaining. I hope you are having a wonderful day!

We saw Ogopogo when I was a teenager and my mother and grandmother took us to Bedrock City.
That sounds like a very happy memory for you! Did you see a replica Ogopogo, or was this an actual sighting in the lake?
I think it may have been a wishful sighting.

The vase is amazing. Love the subtle colors and texture. And the screen! It made me realize I need a screen to shelter my corner of the basement–where I create–from the rest of the storage and workshop area.

Beautiful. Do you know anything about it’s origin? Is it new or old?
I know absolutely nothing about it’s origin! The screen was purchased at an antique shop that has many different vendors who are not actually on site. I would love to find out more about it! I may have to ask the clerk if she can get in touch with the vendor.
