Name that Vase – July Edition

Those of you who are new to my blog, might be wondering what is a ‘Name that Vase’ post. I am asking any of you talented writers, poets or dreamers out there who may be interested to ….

Name that Vase! Here is where you can suggest a name, create a story, poem or prose for this raku pottery vase. Consider this your chance to be inspired, a writing prompt or a creative cue.

In August, we will announce the name of the winner! We look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! So feel free to add your contribution in the comments below! You can check out more vase stories here by clicking on the images of the raku vases on the page.

But before we can proceed to all the fun, I must apologize for not yet naming the winning idea for the May edition of ‘Name that Vase’. As some of you may know last month was a tough one for me, with a loss in the family.

The name that resonated with us most for this piece was ‘Jovian Moon’ and was submitted by David Redpath, who has some incredible written pieces that you can see here. Thank you for suggesting this name, that fit perfectly for this piece!

I want to thank all of those who participated in the May edition of ‘Name that Vase’. You all make it very tough to choose just one name.

I also want to thank all of my readers for your patience with my absence. Things are starting to happen again here and in the pottery and I am excited about sharing some of those highlights with you again. I appreciate your support and kind words!

  1. So that’s what your concept is about! That is a very cool looking vase. If I were to give it a name, I would call it Kitoko which is Lingala for beautiful.

    1. Thank you for teaching me my first word in Lingala! I love learning new things like that. I hope you are having a wonderful day!

      1. It can be! Lately I have been learning a few words in Mi’kmaq as well 😉

      2. Of course. I had to look up that language since I never heard of it before. It’s a First Nations language and ethnic group? Cool!

      3. I had to do the same thing! You are correct and that is our local First Nation people’s language in this area!

    1. Thanks for the beautiful suggestion for a name and I really appreciate your kind words. I hope you have a great day and much peace 😉

  2. “Wolf’s Blood Moon.”
Know that legend that goes that the wolf goes hunting at the full moon? Your silver vase with the littles circles remind me of the moon with craters. And then there’s that gorgeous streak of red! Thus the suggestion. 😀

    1. Mia, I really love this naming suggestion. I can totally see why you would come up with that and really appreciate you participating! I hope you are very well and have a wonderful day!

    1. Thank you for participating and I do like the why you describe your inspiration for the name. It does have a melancholy beauty to it! And I love astronomical references 😉 I hope you are having a great day.

    1. Thank you for your kind words and very interesting suggestion. I think it may have just inspired me to create a new piece! I hope you have a beautiful day and weekend!

  7. I am thinking “Troubadour”. Like an artist writing poetry to music, your piece is true poetry on raku pottery; the shape reminds me a little of a lute, as well. All the best wishes for healing, have a great day!

    1. Thank you so much Irene for your idea and I can see what you mean by the shape resembling a lute. I appreciate your beautiful words and hope that you have a wonderful day! I know you will be having some sort of delicious meal!

    1. Thank you so much for your beautiful idea for a name. I very much enjoyed reading your post and wish you a wonderful day and weekend ahead!

    1. Thanks for the beautiful suggestion for a name. I hope you have a great weekend!

  8. It’s so beautiful. I would call it “Phoenix Reborn” for several reasons. First is a little on the nose since it’s Raku and forged in flame. The second is because, if I read your blog properly, this is the first work you have finished since your sad loss. Lastly because July has been stupid hot for almost everyone everywhere so this could be a lovely harbinger of cooler times since it’s out of the flames and hopefully so are we all.

    1. Thank you Mandy for this beautiful suggestion. It is very appropriate and I love your reasoning. I am really drawn to this name and feel like you have captured the essence of this piece on many levels.
Our weather has been strange here. Lots of rain in the first half of the month and now we are in a heatwave here too.
I hope you are keeping cool and enjoying the summer in spite of the heat,

    1. Thank you so much for your kind and wonderful suggestion! I hope you have a beautiful day and really appreciate you taking the time to comment!

  9. As always, your vases inspire me. This is what I felt as I looked this one over. Thank you so much for your beautiful art!

    “Chroma”

    Mad as hell,
    The tears flow down.
    Steaming,
    Boiling,
    Bubbles bursting,
    Scorched,
    And untouchable.
    Red hot love.

    1. Thank you so much for your beautiful words! I love the name you have chosen, for some reason I am very drawn to that word! Your poem is full of emotion and imagery and are a powerful companion for this vase. I hope you are well and have a wonderful week!

      1. When I opened your post, the intensity of the vase popped me in the heart! After I let the words come out, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to share it, but intensity won. It is a beautiful piece, that allowed my heart to sing. Your art is inspiring. Thank you.

        Same to you!

      2. I am so glad you decided to share the heart of your song with us! Thank goodness the intesity won out 😉 I very much appreciate your kind words about my art and hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
