We have officially entered the rainy season here in Nova Scotia. I think it has rained almost every day for the last week.
What can add more brightness and light to the cloudy skies around me? The May edition of ‘Name that Vase”.
Those of you who are new to my blog, might be wondering what is a ‘Name that Vase’ post. I am asking any of you talented writers, poets or dreamers out there who may be interested to ….
Name that Vase! Here is where you can suggest a name, create a story, poem or prose for this raku pottery vase. You can see some examples here.
In June, we will announce the name of the winner! We look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! So feel free to add your contribution in the comments below! You can check out more vase stories here by clicking on the images of the raku vases on the page.
In other news at the studio …
I have the garden tilled, but before the great flood I did not have time to plant it, except for a few rows. Some of our first volunteers are coming up!
I also spent the last weekend starting to fix up my summer studio. It is a big job, as I added three new windows for light and all new shakes need to go up. I am hoping to be able to winterize the building so I can work in there all year round!
Spring is here. Hopefully the sun comes out to remind us of that!
What’s your Twitter handle?
Hi! It’s http://twitter.com/alchemistsart
Looks like you found me!
Yeah, I’m not very subtle sometimes 😂😂
haha! I can relate to that comment!

Thanks David! I love space themed ideas! I am working on one for another vase and I can see the reference with this one. Thanks for sharing your idea! Hope your week is going well!
👌👍😎
Winter Grace is the name that comes to mind.
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I hope you are having a wonderful day!
Ember of Hope
That is a beautiful name! Thank you for the suggestion!
How about ‘Dawning’? The play of colors reminds me a lot of how the sky looks just before any actual sunlight touches the horizon. All muted colors in layers you can’t see any other time of day except at dawn and dusk.
I like that name! It does remind me of the sky too and how it touches the landscape! Thanks for the great suggestion and I hope you are having a wonderful day!
Love volunteers in the garden!
I am looking forward to a nice fresh salad from there soon! Fortunately we have been enjoying some spinach that has self seeded in our greenhouse!
Love the pebbly, leathery texture in the close-up…great tactile quality! It almost begs to be touched.
Thank you so much for kind comment! I think the texture aside from the colouring is one of the best features of this piece. I hope your week is going very well!
“Twilight” because that’s what it looks like! ☺
Great job on this vase with the interspersing of the colours.
Thanks so much for your idea and suggestion Mia, this piece certainly is like twilight to me too! I hope you are having a great day!
Glad that you agree. 😊
I’m doing good. Hope the same for you too.
I would call it the Dawnsand Vase!
Very nice suggestion capturing the texture in the name too! I hope you are having a great week!
Thanks! Yup, nice week so far 🙂
Beautiful. I will have to think…
I hope you are doing well!
Painting like mad for my show next week
Good luck with your show! I am also trying to get some pieces together for a show I have coming up!
Everything is there and hopefully people will like it x
Name that vase: Astro Pop. This raku vase reminds me of a candy I grew up with. You could only find them at concession stands, or via the ice cream truck. I love the different flavors of layers!
Was that the blue, red and white popsicle? Or did I miss out on another treat during my childhood? I might have to fix that! I hope you have a wonderful day and thanks for the idea for the name!
Desert Sunset
I would like to call it Daughter of Spring 😊 With it’s beautiful colour, it feels more feminine to be and beautiful mixture of colors reminds me of spring 😊
I love the name! Very timely here in our hemisphere! I really appreciate your idea and kind comment and wishing you a glorious and beautiful day!
The shape and colors are beautiful together. I’m at a loss for a good name. It reminds me of something from another world completely. Love it!
Thank you for your kind words. It does have an other worldy feel to it for certain. I hope you are having a great day!
Wow! it’s stunning! IMO, it has a coppery glow. My name for it is – Spiritual Energy
Thank you so much Eugenia! That is a very beautiful name and I thank you for your kind comment. I hope your week is off to a wonderful start!
Antiquity
Through the crinkles of time,
These weary cracks
Hold my body
Together.
With all it’s wear and tear,
The beauty within
Exudes.
I stand up tall,
Claim my place,
Here,
In this
tick of the clock.
Beautiful vase!

Memories of a rainbow
Beautiful name and many thanks for the suggestion. I hope you have a wonderful day!
Dragon Flue
It is the same shape as the flue on my antique lamp. Beautiful vase!
Thank you! must be a neat lamp!
Dragon Pipe
Wow, look at those colors! Reminds me of something interstellar. 🙂
Galactic Sunset
Aurora comes to my mind. The shining and iridescent effect I have seen on some antik vials in excavation exhibitions, if I remember right. So the roman name of the godess of dawn. 🙂 Have a great day.
I love it!!
Don’t have a name suggestion, but just want to say that I love the vase and the subtle colour combination.
This blog looks interesting ✨
NAME THAT VASE too!!
But I think I’m too late to suggest any title here 😅
Thank you so much! I see you found the July edition too! I typically do a post like this once a month 😉
