Name that Vase – May Edition & Studio Update

We have officially entered the rainy season here in Nova Scotia. I think it has rained almost every day for the last week.

What can add more brightness and light to the cloudy skies around me? The May edition of ‘Name that Vase”.

Those of you who are new to my blog, might be wondering what is a ‘Name that Vase’ post. I am asking any of you talented writers, poets or dreamers out there who may be interested to ….

Name that Vase! Here is where you can suggest a name, create a story, poem or prose for this raku pottery vase. You can see some examples here.

In June, we will announce the name of the winner! We look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! So feel free to add your contribution in the comments below! You can check out more vase stories here by clicking on the images of the raku vases on the page.

In other news at the studio …

I have the garden tilled, but before the great flood I did not have time to plant it, except for a few rows. Some of our first volunteers are coming up!

I also spent the last weekend starting to fix up my summer studio. It is a big job, as I added three new windows for light and all new shakes need to go up. I am hoping to be able to winterize the building so I can work in there all year round!

Spring is here. Hopefully the sun comes out to remind us of that!

  1. How about ‘Dawning’? The play of colors reminds me a lot of how the sky looks just before any actual sunlight touches the horizon. All muted colors in layers you can’t see any other time of day except at dawn and dusk.

    1. I like that name! It does remind me of the sky too and how it touches the landscape! Thanks for the great suggestion and I hope you are having a wonderful day!

  2. Name that vase: Astro Pop. This raku vase reminds me of a candy I grew up with. You could only find them at concession stands, or via the ice cream truck. I love the different flavors of layers!

    1. Was that the blue, red and white popsicle? Or did I miss out on another treat during my childhood? I might have to fix that! I hope you have a wonderful day and thanks for the idea for the name!

  5. Antiquity

    Through the crinkles of time,
    These weary cracks
    Hold my body
    Together.
With all it’s wear and tear,
    The beauty within
    Exudes.
    I stand up tall,
    Claim my place,
    Here,
    In this
    tick of the clock.

    Beautiful vase!

  7. Aurora comes to my mind. The shining and iridescent effect I have seen on some antik vials in excavation exhibitions, if I remember right. So the roman name of the godess of dawn. 🙂 Have a great day.

    1. Thank you so much! I see you found the July edition too! I typically do a post like this once a month 😉
