Monet’s Garden

I have long loved art, and one of my earliest art related memories was falling in love with the work of the impressionists. There is a freedom in their paintings and a special kind of beauty that inspired much of my early work.

And they still inspire me.

Claude Monet’s stunning series Water Lilies has inspired the creation of this vase and raku pottery owl.

This series of approximately 250 oil paintings are inspired by his flower garden at his home in Giverny, France. They were his main artistic focus in the last thirty years of his life. Many of them were painted while he had cataracts.

While in my twenties, I had the pleasure of visiting Paris. Of course I hit as many of the art galleries I could. It was a real pleasure to have the opportunity to go to the Musee d’Orsay and see all the wonderful work of the impressionists.

  6. I saw a Monet exhibit when I was younger and I was infatuated with the brush strokes on many of his paintings. You could almost see his frustration in getting the colors perfect. You have done an amazing job at capturing this same excellence, hopefully without the frustration!
