I can not believe we are on our third installment of ‘Name that Vase’! When I wrote my first post like this, I never guessed that so many of you would actually respond with a story. So a special thank you to all my readers who respond with their ideas and creativity!
Those of you who are new to my blog, might be wondering what is a ‘Name that Vase’ post. I am asking any of you talented writers, poets or dreamers out there who may be interested to β¦.
Name that Vase! Here is where you can suggest a name, create a story, poem or prose for this raku pottery vase. You can see some examples here.
Last week, I asked people to choose a vase for this feature. And our winner, by a single vote is below:
Please comment below with your idea for a name for this vase, and an associated snippet of writing and any comments you might have about this vase. The chosen idea will be featured on both our blog and the page for the raku vases, with a link included to your website.
Collage of colours & colourful thoughts. The versatile view of rendering Rangoli(Festival of colors)π€©π€©
I have seen the pictures from Rangoli, and it looks like such a beautiful occurrence! Thank you so much for your kind comment and sharing your idea for this vase!
Buddha’s Belly. It looks contemplative and happy!
I do love this name! It makes me laugh, because it reminds me of this weird ceramic buddha my parents had going up. For some reason he had his hands up in the air, kind of like he was the victim of a hold-up. The weird part was the serene look on his face!
Looking Up or Looking out comes to mind. I love the color mix and on the side where it’s two clear spots, it made me think of eyes. It’s a beautiful piece. π
There is a spot on this vase where I see an eye too! Thanks for sharing your suggestion and your kind words! I hope you have a wonderful day!

No worries! I hope you have a nice evening and thanks again for sharing your beautiful poem!
Thanks for taking the time to respond with this poem. I love the imagery in it and it is beautiful. All of the seasons have a unique and strong pull in their own ways. You would not know this, but we have had crows around most of this winter, as they like to pick through my compost bin! They also like to fill their bellies with my grapes.
i like seeing a crow with a big belly!
The ones that visit here qualify π They have a compost bin and a garden at their disposal, it is like a little buffet for crow. Maybe they will drop off some shiny objects to me!
Gosh that one has the most beautiful colors. I
Ooops – minus the “I”
You almost brought me back to algebra class π Just joking! Thanks again for stopping by!
Thank you so much for your kind comment! I hope you have a great evening!
“Pangaea”
Thanks so much for your suggestion! I hope your week is off to a great start!
Spring Bloom π
It’s covered in so many glorious colors that it reminds me of Spring.
Thank you so much for your suggestion and kind words! I hope you are having a great week so far!
Youβre welcome:) Today was a wonderful start to my week:) I hope your week has started well.
Off to a great start so far! Thanks!
Nebulae… swirling through the galaxy.
Thanks for sharing your idea! I can totally see that in this vase. Have a great week!
Beautiful creation. I love the magical mixing of colors on them. I would like to name it “Heart of Nature” Like the nature, the raku is magnificently beautiful πβ€
Thank you for your very kind words and comments and vase name suggestion. Your idea makes me want to look at the vase again more closely. I hope your week is off to a wonderful start!
Yes..thank you π May you have a beautiful week ahead π
So, do I have this right: we use the vase as a “prompt”, write something (like a poem) and also name the vase? And if so, can I begin late with this vase pictured? Blessings to you, Ennle <3
You are correct! Usually, I have thought of a name for the vase and then written a story, but any type of writing is welcome. You can begin anytime you like π I typically do one post like this a month π I hope you are having an amazing evening.
I wasn’t sure if the vase shown was the one discussed as having “Easter-ish” colors or not…thinking it might be, I immediately had a sort of Easter-themed poem fall onto the page… So I put it in draft, till I checked with you. Your challenge is a perfect meld of pottery art and poetry which makes my soul sing! π Have a blessed evening–I’ll be writing, of course π
I hope you are having a great night writing! The vase we were looking at was the other vase, but I have a feeling that Easter looking vase will be posted soon – possibly closer to Easter, so your poem will come in handy! I am really glad you enjoy the challenge, that makes me really happy π
Okay, then I’ll save the draft for the other vase…and see what I can come up with for the current one π
Quick question: do you allow bloggers to use pics of your vases to accompany a written post–with proper credit to you, of course? I did a post in which I would have loved to feature something of yours, but wanted to ask first. <3
Thank you for asking! I would be happy to have you use a picture of my vase to accompany your written post. Generally I do not have an issue with it, as long the image is credited π I can’t wait to see what you have come up with π I hope you have a lovely day! The snow here stopped and it is sunny, it might be time to start my tomato seeds tonight π
Bless your generous heart <3 Since I needed to get the post up–it's another "light" one you may like, I just used an image from Pixabay. But I'm sure to write something before long that will feature pottery/vases–so I'll choose one of yours and give proper credit and praise! I'm glad to hear your snow has ceased and it's sunny–planting tomato seeds, eh? I'll bet yours taste so much better than the grocery store's!! π It's sunny here too–and I should go out, but as I've not been to bed yet…I think sleep is in order, before another day of writing π Catch you later <3
I will visit your site tonight after everything is done for the day and I can relax and enjoy your work with a glass of homemade wine π I primarily make tomato sauce and salsa and when I run it eating the store bought stuff, well it requires additional spices and seasoning to still not be as enjoyable as the homemade π I hope you have a good sleep and that it fuels more of your beautiful words π
You have a vast array of talents!! Oh my, homemade tomato sauce sounds divine! And you make wine, as well? My system doesn’t tolerate alcohol, otherwise a glass would sound wonderful π Thanks for your kind words…I’m up again, ready for whatever’s next, so I’ll wish you a good evening <3
I do not drink much wine, but I love having it around for company and to give away as gifts π
What kind of wine do you make? I’m so curious π
Gardening is another passion of mine. I make wine from grapes, black currants, rhubarb, strawberries and black berries, all grown here!
It all sounds so wonderful, wish I lived next door! I’m going to make lasagna later today–and I thought of your homemade pasta sauce! I don’t use the prepared jars–I use cans of sauce and tomato paste, adding my own spices.
Very nice! I love lasagna! I usually make a pan of it and it lasts me a few days π You can do a lot with a can of sauce if you add the right spices. I am pretty sure if you lived next door to me there would be lots of random garden veggies and other treats that would appear at your door π I always grow more than I need! If I ever become flush with cash, I will send you a care package of home made goodies π
I appreciate your thoughts, but no need to concern yourself re care packages π Mailing anything is so costly. And yes, when I make lasagna I cut it into serving-size pieces after it’s baked and in the fridge overnight–then I freeze it for nights when I don’t have time to cook π I actually do this a lot–cook in quantity, to freeze for later–I LOVE to cook/bake, but I was from a large family so cannot cook for 1 π
Postage costs are what holds me back from doing more of that! I always joke that if I ever won the lottery, I would probably make sure that I and everyone has all their needs met and then do random acts of kindness with the rest. Simply because it would be fun and make me smile a lot π I also cook in quantity and divide it into portions and freeze so I do not have to eat a crockpot of curry for three days π
I had to laugh about the crock pot of curry–I’ve done the same thing, whether curry or other things! I used to have a neighbor who would eat literally anything I made–so all my less than perfect results went to him, and I didn’t have to feel guilty about tossing things out. But he moved away…and the young guy who I make mac and cheese for, is otherwise rather picky…but he’s a blessing for sure: we got snow dumped on us again this morning, and he just called to say he’ll drive me up to Safeway for groceries! Life is good! π
I don’t buy lottery tickets, but like you, if I ever did–and WON–I’d have so much fun blessing others <3
I am sure your less than perfect results were still pretty great! I don’t buy lottery tickets very often, a few times a year, but there is still a small chance π
Here’s hoping one of your small chances pays off BIG! π

I see campfire / fire and ocean
Thanks for your comment and suggestion. I can see that too and it made me think of last summer when I had a campfire on a local beach π I hope you have a great day!
you too
“Burgeoning” because it looks like it’s about to burst into blossom.
That is a great suggestion. I can see you are already thinking of spring, which is still a bit of time away for us here in Canada. We just got two feet of snow here yesterday! Thanks for your suggestion and I hope you have a great day!
Such a beautiful creation – here is the link to my entry – https://amanpan.com/2019/03/05/autumnal-dreaming/
Thank you so much for your entry! I loved the Haiku and it went with the vase in such a natural and beautiful way! I hope you have an amazing week ahead!
To me, I see an obscured aquarium with a goldfish swimming down, thus it is some kind of βPharaohβs cup,β where the riverβs bed was extracted by hand and the pottery of the mud, a dark underbelly, mirrors the event lost in time. More likely, it is the sedimentary layers of an ancient Koi pond refracting time in the face of a narcissistic man, who pulls vessels from the watery earth, as in a βKoi Pot.β
Thanks for sharing your impressions and story! I can see the goldfish in this vase as well! What a great legend/myth you have created here. I hope you have a great week!
Thank you. You too!

Thanks so much for your suggestion. I hope you have a great day!
Thank you:) I feel like I am going to have one tomorrow after I read your message:D
I would name this vase βJackieβ for Jackie Gleason, cause he was round, blue and bubbly and old school funny and beautiful. π
In his words “Thin people are beautiful, but fat people are adorable” I think he might apply this to vases as well. I hope he caught up with Alice on the moon π Thanks for your idea and making me think of Mr. Gleason. I hope you have an amazing day!
It reminds me of the Horsehead Nebula, one of my absolute favorites, especially because my dad taught me about it when I was little and so into horses.( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horsehead_Nebula )
So happy I found your blog, love looking at your creations and can’t wait to check out the new post from today too! π
Thank you for your kind and beautiful comment! And for sharing that beautiful picture! I can see why it is one of yoru favourites. It almost looks like the Lockness Monster, floating in the sky the way it does π I hope you have a great day!
I see earth and water. The blue is deep ocean, the brown is geological soil rock and stone. Together they make the wet clay that us fashioned into your beautiful pot..
Thank you for your comment and sharing your idea! I hope you are having a great week!

Mother’s clay. π
Here’s the poem for you, I hope you’re pleased π
https://abandonedamenities.com/2019/03/09/potters-blood/
Thank you for writing such a beautiful poem. You have such a gift with words and I am honoured that you used them to describe something that I made. I hope you are having a beautiful day! We have the sun before the storm here!
I’m very glad you’re pleased π Perhaps I will write some more pieces inspired by your fabulous pottery! It is absolutely clear sunny and FRIGID today–BRRRR! I’m glad you have sun also…but a storm in the forecast? As in more snow? I hope not π My lasagna turned out well–I froze a separate pan, in hopes of having guests in a few weeks. I keep you in mind, heart and prayers <3
I am honoured you wrote the piece and you are welcome to put words to my creations at will π It is going to warm up here, and the storm will be snow and then rain π We are going to get some warm temperatures this week! Your company is going to be lucky to have some of your lasagna. I suspect it is pretty amazing and thank you for your kind thoughts and wishes. I wish you all beautiful things in the week ahead and look forward to reading some more of your beautiful words!
We are also expecting warmer temps, with rain following some sunny days. I may be confused, as I was thinking you were in the eastern part of Canada–and I thought your weather would be far different from Seattle area’s. I spent 2 hrs with “our” Rick Mercer late last night–he is good medicine, makes me laugh so hard!! And actually, I think I’ve learned more about Canada through him, than any other source. π Hope you have a wonderful week, chat more later <3
I am in Atlantic Canada in Nova Scotia! Do you remember Mary Walsh? She did this character as a warrior princess who interviewed Canadian politicians and was quite funny at times. The one thing we say about the weather here is, if you don’t like it, wait a little and it will change π I hope you are having a great week and doing well π
Oh yes, Mary Walsh is very funny! We say the same thing about the weather–it’s often quite changeable π
So what’s the official name? LOL
My next blog post will reveal all π It should be posted tomorrow π
Haha! That’s so evil!
It was the cat’s idea! I must comply π
