Interested in seeing a potter in action, creating a vase on the wheel? In this video I spin the clay around, kind of like a record, and create a beautiful vase for a raku firing.
Currently in the studio I am making some pieces and getting ready for a bisque firing for my next art show this year. I am very excited to show some of the new pieces we are making here.
Have you ever used a pottery wheel? If so, what did you make? And if you have not, what would you want to make?
You make it look so easy! Pretty sure the last time I tried this in school, my project went flying into a muddy mess LOL
Thanks for your kind words! On the weekend a bowl I was trimming the bottom of and already made flew of the wheel! It happens to us all sometimes!
LOL! Think of all the “floor spice” adding to your piece.
haha! Extra seasoning. It went into my clay reclamation bucket, I should have trimmed it earlier, but life sometimes happens!
I bet this is so relaxing! If it was me, I wouldn’t finish that vase lol I’ll keep spinning it on and on lol, mesmerizing โจ
I find so relaxing and peaceful, I often can get caught up in throwing a piece and usually enjoy taking my time. Thank you for your comment and I hope you have a great week!
I have always wanted to take a pottery class. Definitely on my bucket list but I have a feeling it’ll become a hobby and not just something to pursue out of curiosity.
I have found it to be a completely amazing immersive experience! I hope you find the joy in it like I did!
I look forward to it!
This must take so much practice! Always enjoy watching you make things – it’s amazing.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I think I am going to keep making the videos of me throwing I think!
Definitely – it really is insightful for someone who doesn’t know how it all happens – its just amazing to watch.
I loved this video – it was very satisfying to watch. I was lucky enough to have access to a pottery studio years ago. This brings back memories!
I had pottery courses in college. I’d walk across campus in the middle of the night on weekends and throw pots with a few friends. Very good for stress relief.
Yes I find it is a great way to relieve stress! Almost like a meditation with clay!
That was a great video! You have such a delicate touch. I have had “experiences” throwing pottery in an art class. Only enough to be able to appreciate how internally healing the process really can be if you are skilled. I respect what it took for you to keep with it. The vases you show are lovely.
Thank you for your kind words and appreciation for my work! I am really glad I stuck with it, and every time I throw, I get to learn more! I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!
Wow! That is sooo cool. I love to draw pottery. I imagine it feels so good to go through the process of creating something useful and beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for your comment and kind words! I love the process and experience of creating! I would love to see some of your pottery drawings if they are online!
Amazing! What would I spin? Probably something very NSFW ๐๐๐๐
haha! I hope you have an amazing weekend!
Mesmerizing. So much fun to watch. Still trying to get past short bowls myself. Love the vase.
Thanks for your kind words! Ironically, I was just making some soup bowls for the house! I am sure you will be throwing beautiful vases and bigger bowls soon!
Cool. Concentration.
Thank you!
Never done this. Looks like it’s calming and soothing
I find it very relaxing! You should try it some time if you have the chance!
Would love to try this but I think itโd have to be something super simple. . . . a bowl, possibly?
You should try it! I think you might have an easier time making a mug, but you could try a small bowl!
A mug had been my first thought because I would probably use it often. Thought a bowl would be easier. Shows what I know. ๐
I might have thought the same thing before throwing! Bowls can have a tendency to flop when you first start throwing, or at least they did for me when I started ๐
Great video. Itโs been years since I tried that and loved it. This makes me want to do it again. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you for your kind comment! If you try it again, I would love to see what you end up making!
Thanks! I did a quick search for place to go do this around here, and didnโt find much except painting already made stuff. I think I need to ask around.
If there are local potters in the area, they may be agreeable to providing lessons. I have a few people I teach.
