Name that Vase!

As many of my regular followers and readers know, I often name the vases I create and write a little story. Usually I pull from my knowledge of mythology or pop-culture to tell a tale that has the right piece for the raku pottery vase.

This particular vase has been known as ’44’, and it is time it had a name and a story!

That is where you come in! I am asking any of you talented writers, poets or dreamers who may be interested to ….

Name that Vase!

And create your own unique short story, poem, prose or even a random thought!

I have included an example of one of my vases with a name and a story here! You can also check out our page of vases, which mostly have stories.

So please comment below with your idea for a name for this vase, and an associated snippet of writing. The chosen idea will be featured on both our blog and the page for the raku vases, with a link included to your website. Heck I will even send you a little thank you postcard and note if you like!

    1. No need to apologize! Sometimes technology has a mind of it’s own! I hope you are having a great day!

  1. I would call it a “copper tear”.
I imagine a female giant who is made of copper. Her partner has left her to go to war against the ice giants of the North. When she realises he will never return she begins to cry copper tears but the ice giants bring winter to her land and the tears freeze leaving copper frost layering the outside of them…….

    1. Thank you so much for sharing your story! I love it and how you have set it in a mythical land of giants! I think those ice giants have been busy here in Canada!

      1. That is very good! It feels very much at home with other stories that I have created for vases!

      2. I would love that! I can provide you with another vase for that if you like 😉 I love what you wrote so very much!

      3. I would love to read what you wrote when you are ready to share it 😉

    1. Thank you for sharing! I will go back and make sure the link works or add one! I LOVE the story!

  2. How fun!
I call the color Crackled Dawn.
It had rained for three days. Three long shadowed, sulking days. She wondered if she would ever see the sun again. To find her way to her secret woods that could only be found by sunlight. No matter, she mused, slipping out of bed. I’m going today no matter rain or no rain. She needed to get out. And when she pushed the curtains back, a smile hit her lips. The crackled dawn told her that today was the day.

    1. I LOVE this story! This is not going to be an easy choice! I might have to start making some vases for all of your stories! Thank you so much for participating! I hope you have an amazing day!

  3. Hum. I left a reply about an hour ago and it’s not showing up. It contained a link, wonder if that’s why.

    1. I think it might have been because I got distracted by my day job and had not yet approved the post? It seems to be showing up now and I am so glad it is!

  4. So beautiful! You could call it Persephone…it has the copper of autumn when she leaves to be with her husband Hades, and the green of spring when she returns to her mother Demeter.

    1. How lovely! I feel like it was only a matter of time that Persephone would have her own vase in my collection. After all she went through, she at least deserves that much! Thank you so much for your contribution! I love it!

      1. I’m so glad you like! It’s my favorite myth. Totally agree about what she went through– though who wouldn’t want to be Queen of the Underworld 🙂

      2. After all the heartache, she certainly got the best of both worlds! LOL I would be a little worried if I ran into her somewhere and she said … ‘See you in six months’!

      1. Although I was unable to come up with a name myself, I think my imagination was more intrigued by what type and color of flower I would put in the vase. Perhaps a challenge for another time?!?

      2. I love that idea! I think that I am going to have to run with it come spring! Was there a type of flower that came to mind for this piece?

      3. Yes, a Black Iris. Here is a link to an article and the first photo has some golden orange tones that would go nicely with some of the coppery orange tones in your vase. The deep purple would complete a color triad with the green and orange tones as well. It is a strong flower, but I think that is what this strong vase needs. (In the past I have bought vases specifically for particular cut flowers from my garden!)

      4. I could not agree with you more about your flower selection! And guess what? I think you just inadvertently convinced me to plant some in my garden. I think they would look stunning in a number of pieces. Thanks for sharing the article. You certainly have an eye for pairing flowers with vases!

  5. “Little Jupiter”

    So small and so stormy,
    Splashed with thundering
    Colors and slushy but rugged-like
    Terrain.

    Scary but somehow simple
    the other sensational but
    not so scrupulous in detail
    from afar, but

    You so close
    A world in a vase;
    An art-construct of
    What is forever stormy-seasonal
    to dream just beyond
    Our world, Little Jupiter
    Reminds us so.

    1. I am simply in awe of these beautiful words! I do feel like you have captured the spirit and the energy of this piece. Absolutely amazing! Thank you for participating!

    1. Thank you for such an interesting comment. I must google and check out how this glassware looked. I remember hearing about that eruption, I was a child then.

  6. “Venus” is what I would refer to this beauty as!

She is known for her love and beauty
Admired by all the Gods for how she shines
Her beauty will capture the one she belongs to 💜

I know my post is late but still very fun sharing with you as you share with us! 🌹

    1. You are welcome to comment even if it is late, and I love that you did!

When I read your statement, I heard this in my head for a moment:

I loved your comparison of the vase to the goddess Venus! Thank you so much, and I hope you have a fantastic day!

    1. Thank you for sharing this great experience, your writing and helping me learn about a place of mythical beauty! I love your writing and descriptions and am honoured to have provided the twist of creativity!

    1. Thanks for your suggestion! I am going to be doing another post like this in the near future!
