Top 5 Creations of 2018

top five raku pottery pieces of 2018

As 2018 draws to a close, I am in the midst of my annual review of the year, and it was a good one, but a CHALLENGING one.

Each good thing that happened, and there were many of them, were hard fought achievements. Here is a list of what I consider to be my top five creative accomplishments.

  1. My first creation on this list was completed in the spring. It was a handbuilt box, fashioned in steampunk style.

2. These creations are grouped together, for they represent the magical moment of one of my early raku firings. They were the start of my love affair with raku! You can see me in action on the wheel making a raku vase here!

3. These two pieces are very special to me! With these two pieces I tried to create landscape effects on pottery with raku. Rumi’s landscape went to a very special person. Hi, Mom! The two pictures show how different lighting impacts the photography of the same vase! You can see more of our raku vases here!

4. A raku owl called Archimedes who has taken up residence in the UK, and a couple of his friends, who have yet to fly off to their new home! You can see more of our owl family here.

5. Christmas Ornaments! This year I developed a process to throw Christmas ornaments on the wheel, and love the results. I have a request for a few pink ones! You can check out our Christmas tree and more ornaments in this short video.

A special thank you to everyone who has supported my little pottery adventure through purchasing a piece, following me online, for the kind words and encouragement. You are all stars!

Which was your favourite creation(s)? And is there anything you would like to see me make in 2019?

    1. Thank you! You should make something from clay, it is so much fun! I hope 2019 is off to a great start for you!

      1. Yes I actually made a pencil sketch and on top of it I made some flowers using clay. You should definitely checkout my post “The universe is saying to you today”.

      2. Those flowers are from clay??? It almost looks like they are made of fondant for cakes. So bright and cheery!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words and comment. Golden Cliff sits on my coffee table, I can’t bring myself to part with it!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words and comments! I hope your have an amazing 2019!

  1. 🤩WoW🤩…I’m amazed at the beauty & uniqueness of each individual piece. I’m pleasantly surprised with each scroll that I take. I’m seeing images is many of your pieces; a blue mountainside, with a neat village at the foot, nestled within a flush valley & mini babbling brooks scattered about. They’re two similar vases, a beautiful woman with long flowing dreadlocks, blends, extends, & becomes the vases. The owls are ever so cleverly done. I love them as well! The first piece? The cold, barren reflection of a snowy day, as the colorless tree extensions become one with the vase, with a 3D impression of cracking, ending with a jovial view of holiday tree ornaments. MY!!! I agree with short-prose-fiction. I love them all as well. You Soulful Alchemist😎 🥰 “Namastè & One Love”❤️💛💚

    1. I am amazed and humbled by your kind words and I love your descriptions of the pieces! You see them like I do with their own stories and landscapes! I would love it if sometime I made a vase and you wrote a story, poem or poetry for it! Or maybe I could do that for one of your works that you choose. I love collaborating with people. A photographer friend of mine and I are looking at putting together a calendar this year with poetry in nature 😉 Your comment makes me smile so much. Much love and peace to you, you magical soulful poetess!

      1. (((BOWING GRACEFULLY))) I thank you so much. I would be honored to collaborate with you. Your work is soulful & poetic as well. I felt each piece. I will give you my contact information. We must keep in communication.

I’m deeply pleased to have caused a smile. and allowed to share the magic with you that so many of us have forgotten that we possess. You in turn have made me smile as well. I love sharing positive vibes.

Please have a beautiful day & continued existence! “Namastè & One Love”❤️💛💚

      2. Amazing! I feel as though your writing is very soulful and I look forward to hearing from you and collaborating!

I appreciate your magic and that you are able to share it so freely! That is the stuff that makes the world better. Positive vibes are the best!

I am wishing you much beauty and love as you make your way through your day! Will be in touch soon!

      3. Thank you again Alchemist. You’re doing the exact thing with your beautiful art. It’s moving!

You’re right, magic is best when shared, especially with like-minders. I admit, I wasn’t always so free. It took overcoming my fears of my own emotions to take my poetry further. A very dear Poetess that transcended named Nakato Lewis inspired & encouraged me to share my poetry. She stated that it was a voice that needed to be heard.

I am honored and deeply touched that my poetry affects you and others. I’m a simple reminder that we all have that magic, it’s called LOVE. It’s purpose is to be spread, like wildfire on dry grass🥰

Stay Blessed my Friend & I look forward to our journey.

        “Namastè & One Love”❤️💛💚

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words! I loved those pieces very much and miss them both a little! They are in new homes.

      1. I bet you get attached! All that time and love put into each piece. Still, how lovely that other people can appreciate their beauty.

      2. You are right on all counts! It may sound corny, but my pieces feel like my children and it is nice to see them getting to travel further afield than I!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words! I love nature and photography and your pictures are lovely!
